PITCH WITCHES Workshop, $3.99

Okay, so imagine you’re standing in line for coffee at a seminar or workshop or conference and next to you happens to be an agent. You can’t help yourself, you ask if s/he would listen to your pitch. S/he says ‘Sure, go ahead.’
Do you know what you’re going to say

Don’t ask to pitch until you do.

*In ‘Pitch Witches’ author/editor/workshop leader Marla Miller & Sunbelt Publications Editor-in-Chief Jennifer Silva Redmond teach Pitch Witches Workshop @ the 2012 So Cal Writers Conference.

Here’s the 55 minute video OVERVIEW:

Familiar themes, like mothers dying, divorce, drug addiction etc. can cause agents’ eyelids to droop. How does your pitch grab their interest? Marla shows one writer how just by asking a few questions.

The goal of every pitch? Do you know what it is?

Why do platforms matter & if you have a sturdy one, should you ‘drop’ it into the pitch?

Examples of ‘perfect’ pitches.

Jennifer hears one writer’s pitch & two questions later, gives that writer a ‘gift’ that ‘polishes’ her pitch.

‘Built in’ audiences: if you/your book have one, do you include in your pitch?

Blogs: should they be mentioned in a pitch?

Expertise: should you include in a pitch? Always? Sometimes? Never? Do you know?

Pacing your pitch: why pacing matters.

The advantage of ‘fresh.’ Do you know if your story offers a fresh take on an ‘old’ theme? If your story does, why emphasize this in the pitch?
